EGCC in Golf World TOP100 again

Estonian Golf & Country Club was one of the big movers in the latest edition of the influential Continental Europe's Top 100 Courses rankings, published by Golf World.

The highly acclaimed Sea Course – located just 20 minutes outside the country's stunning capital city Tallinn – has moved up 11 places from 95 to 84, capping a fantastic year for the European Tour Course which staged the Omega Mission Hills World Cup European Qualifier for a second time.

Nestled beside the Baltic Sea, the dramatic Sea Course winds its way through forest and opens up alongside the Gulf of Finland and Jgala River Delta. Along the way golfers negotiate trees, well placed water, cunningly situated bunkers and a number of ancient granite boulders left dotted around the venue following the last ice age.

"To have moved up in the Top 100 European Courses rankings is a significant achievement," said Hanno Kross, Estonian Golf & Country Club CEO. "We have received great feedback from Tour players who competed over the course during the Omega Mission Hills World Cup qualifiers in both 2009 and this year.

"To be recognised as one of Continental Europe's Top 100 Courses in a country where golf is still a minority sport is a huge achievement and is a testament to the high quality of the venue and the visions we have for Estonian Golf & Country Club."

Designed by leading Finnish course architect Lassi Pekka Tilander, the layout received high praise from the panellists – comprising Tour Pros, journalists and officials from across Europe – who compile the Top 100 rankings every two years.

The supplement reads: "A significant jump for Estonia's only entry – and one which is fully justified by its astonishing maturity over the past six years. It is set on the Baltic coast and the design has been sympathetic to historical burial sites, restored stone walls and huge oak trees. It meanders through forest out to the coast and the Jgala River."

The Estonian Golf & Country Club also boasts a 9-hole links style course – The Stone Course – hewn from an ancient archaeological site. As a European Tour Course, the venue boasts first-class facilities, including a contemporary, award-winning clubhouse enjoying panoramic views over both courses and the Jgala River delta beyond.
